A Hi-Rel customer was building a ground based radar system but had a shortage of a BGA that had went obsolete.

They could locate that part on the grey market, although the source was unknown, and the parts history was not able to be verified. This was seen as a risk.

However they had PCB's from a previous revision of the system that contained the same BGA. These PCB's were unsued spares, so the IC's had zero hours use. Retronix were able to remove the BGA's from the old PCB's without any reflow cycles, and refurbish the BGA's to as new condition.

These BGA's were then successfully placed onto the new PCB's with 100% pass rate.
